7/12/08

Hey people,

Another action-packed week draws to a close and an even busier one starts. Tons going on, now pay attention 007…

Last week:
On Sunday Nathan and those who were there talked about the people of Israel disobeying God in the Old Testament, and about how God warned the Israelites through the prophets, before sending them away into exile. They talked about how God expects the people of his covenant to behave, and ended the session with a discussion concerning God's anger, and watched this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6_3Va-X1pk which is great and worth watching (good bit on righteous anger). I think it ties in with a thread on the bulletin board about how church needs more men. In the same thread I challenged Nathan to a fight to the death (still waiting for laser quest, or other reasonable excuse)- the bulletin board is awesome and everyone should go visit!

On Sunday evening there was Fusion. The Fontainebleau lot failed to turn up. Pfft. Anyway, much amusement was had- if you weren’t there, you missed out on multi-person skiing (the MAN-TEAM won, just to rub it in), unbelievably amazing chicken, and a very good (and funny) talk about talking to God to your friends by an outside speaker. There were also lots of people there, including a few new faces, which was great.

My crystal ball tells me:
Friday evening- MADAGASCAR 2!!!!! Meet at St Quentin en Yvelines Ouest Cinema at 20h15, or miss out on penguins…

Saturday- from 10h00 onwards, in the youth room, make Christmas cards to sell at the Christmas market the next day- this is quite important!

Sunday morning- no youth group :( there will be a nativity play in the morning instead. After the morning service, we're holding a stand during the Christmas Market. We need volunteers to staff it.

Sunday evening- Carol service, followed by the Christmas Market stand again.

Friday 19th- after Carols Under the Stars, YOUTH SLEEPOVER. “Invite all your friends! Get dancing shoes on! Boom baby! It's awesome! Yeah! Yeah!” according to Nathan. He’s right; it will be awesome, because I will be there to make it so… I think (might be in L.A.)

And then it will be Christmas, when over-eating and woolly jumpers become not just prevalent, but socially acceptable! I can’t wait.

More news about the next Fusion dates in 2009 to come, watch this space. Well, not this space exactly, it might be above or below slightly, but y’know.

Don’t forget- Soul Survivor meeting is on Sunday the 11th after the morning service.

Lastly, apologies to Clare Kenchington for spelling your name wrong last week- my mum’s middle name is spelt the same way, I really have no excuse…

Have a truly excellent week, all of you, and good luck to those with interviews!

Hey everyone,

Past events:
> Sunday morning- talk was about how the Israelites disobeyed God, the ensuing exile, and God’s anger. This video was watched http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6_3Va-X1pk
> Sunday evening- the game was multi-person skiing (don’t ask) and the talk, about introducing one’s fellow man to God, was excellent.

Future events:
> Saturday morning, 10h00- come and make Christmas cards to sell.
> Sunday morning- no youth group. Christmas market stand after the service.
> Sunday evening- Christmas market stand after the carol service.
> Friday 19th- Youth sleepover. Will redefine awesome and epic.

And then, merry Christmas!
(Soul Survivor meeting is on the 11th after the morning service)

Apologies to Clare Kenchington for spelling your name wrong last week…

Have a smashing week. Until next time,
Ed

Hi everybody! (hi dr. nick)

Introducing Ed, your temporary newsletter writer- I’m giving Nathan a hand with it until February or so. Apologies in advance for total lack of accents on French words and obscure cultural references.

So, without further ado-

Last week :
On Saturday there was the soiree Pulse. I wasn’t there, so can’t really tell you what it was like, but those who went (a whole bunch of people) said that it was really epic and worth going to. The next one is on the 31st January in Versailles. The website is here (click here).

On Sunday morning Nathan (allegedly) talked about the Exodus, and how God took Israel out of slavery in Egypt and brought them into freedom in the land of promise, just as God took us out of slavery to sin and into his glorious light through the death and resurrection of Christ. Good story actually, worth reading; lots of excitement, such as manna- the closest modern-day equivalent to which are probably Claire Kenchington’s cinnamon rolls. Imagine living off those for 40 years. Yeah.

In the swirling mists of the future:
Next Sunday: FUSIOOON!! No, not the Japanese restaurant. Last one of the year, and worth going to because the Fontainebleau youth group (that I used to be in) is coming along too! That means Katherine! We love Katherine! Hilarity will certainly ensue.

Madagascar 2 (Escape 2 Africa): This was going to happen on the 6th, but apparently some people can’t make it, so it might be changed to the 13th… what do we think people?

Also on the 13th: the Mr. Boogies Christmas party might not happen because Church is rather busy around then. Nathan is going to talk to Catherine Fourel about whether it can be squeezed in around all the kids’ activities, but if it can’t, then it’s off- unless somebody has a big house that it could be hosted at? “All we need is a good Hi-Fi system, a couple of TV sets and space to dance”, according to Nathan. (I would volunteer my house, but it’s a bit of a trek (expensive trains too), and my mum would go completely bonkers)

14th Dec: there’ll be a Christmas card market stand. On the morning of the 13th there will be a card-making workshop for those who are feeling exceptionally festive, or you can make them yourselves at home. Nathan says that we need about 100, but if you make more you can always give them to your mum (and then ask for money). There also might be Christmas-tree-shaped cookie and/or fudge making, but this, apparently, depends on the recipe.

11th Jan: Soul Survivor meeting after the morning service.

That’s all folks. Have a super week and see you Sunday.
Ed

Hello all!

I’m Ed and I’m doing the newsletter until February to give Nathan a hand.

Last week:
Pulse- was epic. Next one is on the 31st Jan in Versailles. Website is at http://www.soirees-pulse.com/Paris/soiree_Paris.html
Last Sunday- Nathan talked about the Exodus.

Foggy future:
Next Sunday- Fusion. Fontainebleau youth group attending, hilarity will ensue.
6th- Madagascar 2 might have to be moved to the 13th because some people can’t come, please state preference.
13th- Mr. Boogies may have to be cancelled due to lack of venue (Church busy). If anyone has a big house with a hi-fi, this would be great!
14th- Christmas market stand, we are selling Christmas cards and possibly tree-shaped cookies and/or fudge. Feel free to make cards at home (we need >100) or make them in the workshop on the morning of the 13th.
11th Jan- Soul Survivor meeting after AM service.

Have a super week!

Hey all!!

Ah, what a relaxing week-end: no youth group on. Let me tell you: I don't like relaxing week-ends! I miss you guys!! So to compnsate, this week-end we have a massive load of stuff going on:

First of all, Saturday. We're going to Laser Quest. The place is in Coignières, and the address is

Chemin des essarts
78310, Coignières

and here's a map: http://www.laserquest78.fr/LQ78-plan.pdf

So far, there are a lot of young people coming, but there is up til' now no transport... Could any parents or drivers please make themselves known so that we can organise transport please? Otherwise, we'll go by train.

To sum up, we're meeting at church at 12.30 for pizza. Bring 20?. If you don't want pizza, you can either meet us at church at 13h30, or at Laser Quest at 14h00. Bring 12?.

And then on Sunday morning, normal activities resume after last Sunday's awesome On Your Marks service! We'll be talking about the fall, and in Jolt in any case, we'll be watching a video and listening to some music... I hope that Maz can match that for Impact! Otherwise, Jolt will have no choice but to gloat at Impact... Unless you choose to not gloat, which is maybe nicer, but quite so fun... ;-)

And in the evening, straight after the Five Thirty Service, we have Fusion!! It's going to be great fun with great food, and some quality time with Youth Group and co. I really recommend that you come along. You'll be missing all the fun otherwise... And that would be sad.

So voilà, that's what's on next week.

And then don't forget that on Saturday the 29th, @ 7.30 in Elancourt, we have a soirée PULSE, which I really couldn't recommend more highly!! It's really going to be top stuff, so don't miss out.

In other news, it's Anna's big 18 this Friday, so I think that we should overload her Facebook page with messages from everybody.

And I believe that that is all. I'm sure that there's something else that I'm forgetting, so maybe expect another e-mail in the next day or so, once my amazing wife, or someone from Youth Group will have reminded me what it is that I'm forgetting.

See you all really soon, and have a great, blessed week.

Nathan
